“It’s for the Birds” Annual Auction - A Great Success in 2008
We need your support. This is our major fundraiser. Join us for a little wine, good food, a lot of fellowship and the fun of bidding on great items in both the silent and
live auctions. Professional auctioneer Doug Sinclair always makes this annual event very entertaining and for successful bidders a profitable evening.

Admission Tickets Cost: $15.00 per person - AVAILABLE AT THE DOOR
Each admission ticket holder will receive a bidder number, a chance to win door prizes* and a goody bag in addition to enjoying “Elegant hor d’oeuvres” all evening. Wine is extra; glasses are $5 with unlimited refills.
(*You must be present to win door prizes)
Preliminary Menu “Elegant hor d’ oeuvres”:
Roasted Turkey w/ Madera Cream Sauce; Sliced Tenderloin Tapanede; Smithfield Ham Biscuits; Fresh Fruits, Veggies and International Cheese; Chicken a la Orange; Smoked Salmon and Elmira’s Meatballs. Sweets: Oatmeal Lace Cookies; Chocolates; Gourmet

Raffle Tickets
Available at $5.00 each or 5 tickets for $20.00. You do not need to be present to win the raffle. Grand prize; $3,000 Zeiss scope, zoom eyepiece and tripod package.
The runner-up prize is $200. The sellers of the winning tickets will also win a prize.
Schedule
5:30 PM - Doors will open (registration, wine, silent auction and raffle ticket sales)
6:00 PM - The food area opens
7:15 PM - The silent auction ends & the raffle drawing will be held
7:30 PM - Live auction starts
8:30 PM - Live auction ends and door prizes are awarded
8:40 PM - Checkout and cleanup

Things you can do to help.
1. Buy event tickets and attend.
2. Make a donation or become a sponsor. Deadline is October 31
3. Help obtain other donations and sponsors. Think what will delight and inspire spirited bidding!
4. Help sell raffle tickets.
5. Volunteer (No charge)
6. Attend, bring a friend or two and buy lots of great gifts for yourself to help support Richmond Audubon.
7. Last but not least, do not bring any food or dessert, “Elegant hor d’ oeuvres” are being provided.
Use Of Auction Funds (All funds will be used for local projects)
Primary Project (75% of funds raised)
• RAS Kids – Introducing children in under-served Richmond communities to nature and educating them through nature study and field trip. Funds raised in the Auction will support the following activities.
Swansboro Elementary School (South Richmond)
— Continue development of 10-acre site as an outdoor classroom
— Establish 6 garden plots (one for each grade)
— Provide two teacher training workshops
Charity Family Life (After-school Program for youth, Creighton Court Area)
— Explore sections of the James River Park
— Provide summer exploration programs; tree and rock climbing, kyaking
— Participate in VCU Rice Center outdoor program activities
— Engage children in nature photography workshops
Secondary projects (25% of funds raised)
RAS’ on-going habitat conservation projects at local preserves:
— James River Park System in Richmond
— Presquile National Wildlife Refuge–RAS has adopted the Lower James River Important Bird Area (SEE: IBA)that includes Presquile NWR.
Citizen Science projects include:
— Coordinating the Hopewell Christmas Bird Count since 1957
— Sponsoring two Monitoring Avian Productivity and Survivorship (SEE: MAPS) programs at the Powhatan WMA and the Dutch Gap Conservation Area
— Supporting nesting studies for Prothonotary Warblers and winter monitoring for Northern Saw-whet Owls.Our Mission.
