Help make a difference! Become actively involved in RAS by protecting the birds, other wildlife and the environment. Help ensure that future generations can enjoy all the beauty nature has to offer! Contact the specific committee chairperson or event coordinator for ways you can become a more active member. not sure what areas of service fits you best? Contact the Membership Committee Chairperson . Positions from helping at the MAPS bird banding stations to preparing a dessert for the after meeting refreshment as part of our Hospitality Committee. Some get involved in administrative activities while others share their knowledge and passion for birds and nature.

Partners and Associates

The Richmond Audubon Society works in conjunction with various organizations including: Virginia Society of Ornithology (VSO), Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens, Presquile National Wildlife Reserve, Dutch Gap Conservation Area, The Public Schools, Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, James River Park System, surrounding parks and counties. RAS also works with human service agencies, public schools and scout troops to bring nature, education, experience and our youth all together. The chapter also works in partnership with the Virginia Audubon Council and a variety of federal and state agencies to support the Important Bird Areas program (IBAs) throughout Virginia, in particular the Lower James River IBA, which has been adopted the the Richmond Audubon as a service project. We also lobby the state government on ecological and conservation issues as they arise. Other activities include educational programs on birds, bird housing and feeding, identification and appreciation. gardening for the birds, youth outreach and local conservation. We participate in numerous avian population surveys including the Migrator Avian Population Survey (MAPS), the Kiptopeke Bird Banding Station, Saw-whet Owl Banding, area Christmas counts, operating banding stations at Powhatan Wildlife Management Area (WMA) and Henricus WMA, Prothonotary Warbler banding and research in conjunction with Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU).
