Bird Baths

ALSO SEE: FEEDERS AND FEEDING BIRDS

A bird bath can be as instrumental in attracting birds to your backyard as a feeder or bird house. It really helps to have a source of water around because sometimes birds that won’t come to feeders will come to drink or bathe. Plus nearly all the species come to your feeders will also drink from a bird bath to wet their whistle, literally. This can be something simple like a preformed concrete bowl on a stand or a small garden water feature or pond.

Water Depth - Be sure there is a very shallow pool area of around one inch deep or less. This provides an ideal bathing depth. Plus almost ALL yard birds must scoop water into their mouth and then tilt their head back to actually swallow it. To do this they often stand right in the water. The only birds that actually have the ability to siphon water up through their bill are Doves and Pigeons.
