RAS Education Committee Report

Southern States Partnership

December brought The RAS Education Committee opportunity for a strong partnership with Southern States. Another committee meeting was held December 6, 2007 to discuss this possibility. This collaboration looks to bring RAS an opening to assist Southern States in the education some of their sales staff, who would in turn, share the avain information with their clients who purchase bird related products. And to show their appreciation, their clients that qualify through a six month duration purchasing rewards program called the Southern States “Wild Bird Lovers Club” would be offered a membership in the Audubon as an option for their buyers reward. Instead of the usual redeemable merchandise coupon. Southern States would pay their membership fee to the Audubon Society, should they choose that option. These new membership fees would be at adeferred rate of $15.00 in cooperation with he Membership Committee, which agreed to the reduced rate since the first years membership fee is returned from National Audubon in full to our local chapter. This could potentially bring RAS many new first time members and returning members for years to come. If successful enough this project could be implemented on a larger scale. The implementation of this partnership would most likely consist of a one hour presentation with three or four speakers. Each speaker would cover a topic and provide printed education materials on the subjects; What Birds eat What Seeds, Bird Housing, Bird Boxes, and Gardening for the Birds. A date is being discussed for this event possibly as early as January, 2008.
