About The Auction Committee

This annual event is steadily growing thanks to the generous support from both coorporate sponsors and other auction donors. The success of this event has moved it to bigger venues to accommodate the increasing attendance and popularity with both members and the public. This is event supports our habitat, science and education activities and projects as well as supporting our basic operations. The committee is responsible for coordinating the event including the pot luck dinner, silent and live auctions, securing a venue and the collection of funds.

Proceeds Help RAS to:

  • Educate children in under-served Richmond communities and to introduce them to nature.  SEE: KIDS CORNER

  • Migratory Avian Population Survey (MAPS) - funds support the two bird banding stations - RAS MAPS that are collecting scientific data to better understand the area's breeding birds.

  • Christmas Bird Count (CBC) - which tallies wintering bird populations and adds the information to the National Audubon CBC database that underlies reports like the “Common Birds in Decline” published July, 2007. This year RAS will underwrite the cost to volunteers who participate in the CBC.
