Activities and Events:
Bird-a-thon
This is a twenty-four hour marathon style birding event and fund-raiser held each May. Teams or individuals set out on a one day birding mission to see as many unique individual species as possible in Virginia Anyone can participate as a sponsor, a birder or both! Help raise awareness for the diversity of birds in Virginia and help raise funds for RAS projects and activities. Funds are raised from pledges on a per species basis and will be calculated based on the grand total of all RAS teams or as a total pledged amount.

How can I participate?
Individual Birder - There may not be an "i" in team, but there is in B"i"rder! Set out on your own one day adventure to tally the most species.
Bird-a-thon Team - create your own group, contact other birders, choose a captain and a team name if you wish. Then contact the Bird-a-thon Chairperson and register your team and its members.
Gather Pledges - from friends, coworkers and family. This is for both birders and others who wish to participate. To pledge, you can pledge on a per species basis or give a flat pledge amount. Individual and team species lists will be combined to determine a cumulative Richmond Audubon Society species total. Per species pledges will be calculated based on this grand total. Previous Bird-a-thon species total was about 155. ($.10 per species x 155 = $15.50 or $.50 per species x 155 = $77.50)
The fun part
Bird up to 24 continuous hours in Virginia on any designated Bird-a-thon day in May! Tally our species and contact the Bird-a-thon Chairperson with your results. Show your support of Richmond Audubon and its fight to protect birds, other wildlife and their habitats, by making a pledge. Our goal this year is $3,000. We appreciate your support.
