March Members meeting to be held at Twin Hichory Library

Due to a scheduling conflict with the regular member's meeting location the March members meeting will be moved to the new Twin Hichory Library (Next to Deep Run High School in Glen Allen in the West End) for one meeting only. There will not be a pre-meeting dinner for March because of this temporary relocation.

The Richmond Audubon welcomes both members and non-members to events and field trips. Come enjoy birding and fellowship with RAS. NOTE: Any late breaking additions or changes to the field trip list can be found here or on the RAS listserv so check back here for frequent updates.

Sunday, February 3, 2008 – Bryan Park with Sue Ridd

Join Sue for an early walk in Bryan Park and see winter birds at a favorite Richmond park. Meet at 7:45 a.m. at Shelter #1. Questions, call Sue at 270-5365.

Saturday, February 9, 2008 – George Washington’s Birthplace National Monument, Westmoreland County

After visiting the park we will go to Colonial Beach for coffee/refreshments and carpool from the coffee shop to bird the Potomac and creeks in the town for an hour. To carpool/travel as a group to the area, we will depart from the Glenside Drive Park-and-Ride lot at 7 a.m. Admission to certain zones of the park is free but there is an admission fee of $4.00 to some zones good for birding, like the historic house area. Contact Tyler Turpin at 804-317-9478 for more information or to sign up. If February 9 is canceled because of snow or ice or prediction of snow or ice, the make up day will be Saturday, February 23.

Wednesday, February 13, 2008 – 2nd Wednesday Walk with John Coe

The trip this month will be to The Floodwall on the south side of the James River in Richmond. Meet at 9:00 a.m. at the Floodwall parking lot on Simms Ave. Call John at 276-1397 for more information. Friday through Monday,

February 15-18, 2008 – The 11th Annual Great Backyard Bird Count

Participate in this annual count from home, your favorite park or other location.

Friday through Sunday, February 15 - 17, 2008 – Outer Banks, North Carolina

Join the VSO for their annual trek to the Outer Banks for field trips led by Bill Akers. Watch the VSO website for details as they become available.

Saturday, February 16, 2008 – Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens and sections of the James River Park, Richmond

Join Tyler Turpin and tally birds in Richmond for the Great Backyard Bird Count at Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens. After birding Lewis Ginter, Tyler will continue to the James River Park, meeting at the parking lot next to the Tredegar Ironworks. Tyler and group will count birds in the vicinity of Brown’s Island including making a brief walk onto the island then drive along Riverside Drive in the Pony Pasture and Huguenot Woods areas to get a count of winter waterfowl. Counters will return to the parking lot at Pony Pasture to reconcile the trip tally. Contact Tyler Turpin at 317- 9478 to sign up for either or both parts of this winter field trip and count birds for the Great Backyard Bird Count.
